Yesterday Matilda turned two months old. Instead of a party she had an appointment at her Pediatrician's with three needles and two Hello Kitty band-aids. She was held down by a nurse and given one shot in her left thigh and two in her right. I don't need to tell you that she SCREAMED HER EVER LOVING HEAD OFF when the needles went in. She forgot about it 3 minutes later. She was not especially cranky for the shots and didn't have any of the possible side effects. It looks as thought she might like the taste of Children's Cherry Tylenol.
We had started the day by giving her a bath. After she was dressed, I distracted her with a boob while Niclas cut her nails. He was through the right hand and working on the left thumb when Matilda stopped nursing. She pulled back off my nipple and SCREAMED HER EVER LOVING HEAD OFF. I turned to Niclas to say "I think you cut her" to see the exact same look of shock pass over his face that had just passed over hers.
Wrapping up the night and still without a TV (its been a week today), we set up shop in the bedroom to watch a movie on the laptop with plastic 3-inch speakers for sound. Because the speakers are crap, we need to place them on our shoulders to hear. Because Matilda must nurse to fall asleep, she was in my lap. Because I am a TOTAL IDIOT, Matilda's head was on the same side as the shoulder that held my speaker. I moved. The speaker tumbled down and landed on the baby's head. She pulled back off my nipple and SCREAMED HER EVER LOVING HEAD OFF. I didn't need to look in a mirror to see the shock pass over my face.
We were prepared for an especially unhappy baby yesterday. We gave her Children's Cherry Tylenol to sooth her poor little body. We just didn't know we'd be giving it to her because we made her bleed and dropped a speaker on her head and not because of her first round of vaccinations.
