The Pestilence

The Pestilence

I had the cat put to sleep today. She hadn't eaten in days. Had been barfing clear fluid. She'd spent most of last night sleeping on the dresser in our room. I heard her fall off it sometime around 2. Vet said she had a giant tumor in her stomach. I feel guilty for not taking her in a few days ago. She was really suffering.

She was nearly 16. Her life was pretty good, at least until the kids came along.

i'm sorry to hear about roo. 16 is a pretty good long time for a feline though.

I'm so sorry.

She is beautiful. I'm so sorry. Does Matilda miss her (or realize what happened)?

matilda hasn't noticed yet and i didn't tell her anything because i figured, well, she's two. she doesn't really need the stress of DEATH pushed down her throat unless she asks.

i'll tell you what, though. it's going to take awhile before i stop thinking i see cat puke on the floor and start realizing it's just a toy.

I'm so sorry. That really sucks. I've never actually had any pets other than fish die (because my mother gave away my childhood dog when I was at camp at age 13), but I've had Violet for 9 years now, and I'll be a wreck when she goes. The older I get, the more the cliches make sense, though, and there really is something to the fact that she isn't suffering anymore. It's still awful, though....

Cormac, your mother giving your dog away while you were at camp might just be worse than putting a pet to sleep. I mean. CAMP? GAVE YOUR DOG AWAY? The nerve, I tell ya.

Yeah. Age 12, go to camp, come home, Roscoe jumps on me and says hello. Age 13, go to camp, come home, "Where's Roscoe?"

"Oh. I gave him away. I thought it would be easier for you if you weren't around."

Ah, well....
